Institute for Research on Professions and Professional Learning (IPP)
The Institute for Research on Professions and Professional Learning investigates the questions of how teachers pursue their careers and how they can be supported in doing so. It also aims to generate scientifically sound and practically relevant knowledge about the conditions under which professional development programmes are effective and sustainable. Our focus is primarily on schools and professional development in the teaching profession, but we also investigate professional development in other domains.
At the IPP, the research particularly concerns two areas whose interplay is decisive in terms of professional and staff development:
- At the individual level, we investigate personal behaviour, beliefs, and attitudes towards professional careers and lifelong learning.
- At the organisational level, we investigate how these individual behaviours, beliefs, and attitudes affect an organisational context. For this purpose, we focus on the design of core processes in staff management (staff recruitment, assessment, remuneration, and development).
